Baldur's Gate 3 Dank Crypt walkthrough and trap guide

Full Walkthrough for the Dank Crypt in Baldur’s Gate 3

Welcome, adventurers! Ready to dive into the Dank Crypt, the first dungeon in Baldur’s Gate 3? Well, grab your swords and prepare for some greasy traps, pesky undead, and hidden treasures. We’ve got your back with a complete walkthrough of this spooky crypt. Let’s get this party started!

The Best Dank Crypt Party and Level Requirements

Before you venture into the Dank Crypt, make sure your party is at least level 2. Trust me, you don’t want to face those threats at level 1 unless you enjoy a good struggle. So, assemble a kickass party that excels in combat and a bit of trap handling and lockpicking. Here are your go-to heroes:

  • Lae’zel: A melee powerhouse, perfect for tanking those nasty attacks.
  • Astarion: Bring him along with trap disarming kits and lockpicks – he’s your sneaky rogue.
  • Shadowheart: A healer, because you’ll need it when things get rough.
  • Gale: He’s got crowd control and AOE damage spells that will make enemies tremble.

Equip your party with all the essentials – magic items, healing potions, weapons, and armor. Oh, and a short rest wouldn’t hurt either. Let’s make sure those magic users have enough spell slots to unleash the full potential of Baldur’s Gate 3 spells.

How to Get Into the Dank Crypt

Alright, let’s find the entrance to this gloomy crypt! If you want the easiest route, head to the Ravaged Beach and look for the Ancient Door next to the Overgrown Ruins waypoint. It’s locked, but if you’ve got a lockpick, give it a shot. However, beware of three other entrances at the Chapel Entrance up the hill north of you. They are much more dangerous and not for the faint-hearted.

  • The Ornate Door: Behind the Chapel Entrance, there’s a door you can persuade your way through if you’re smooth enough with words. But be prepared for a fight once you’re inside.
  • The Collapsing Floor: Tread carefully near the cracked stone floor where bandits are chit-chatting. One swift shot on the coiled rope will make it crumble, revealing a hole leading to the Bedchamber section. Just be wary of the bandits down below.
  • The Wooden Hatch: Take the cliffside path east of the Chapel Entrance until you reach a wooden hatch. It’s a sneaky way to enter the crypt from a different side, but be warned – it won’t make things any easier if you want all the loot.

Okay, assuming you’re going like a boss through the Ancient Door, let’s continue our adventure!

How to Get Past the Dank Crypt Trap

As you step through the Ancient Door, you’ll come across a Sarcophagus. Pay attention, fellow adventurers! If your characters pass some perception checks, they’ll notice those pesky Grease traps scattered around the room. Keep an eye out for a button on an eastern pillar too. Here’s the lowdown on how to make it past this trap:

  • Opening the Sarcophagus rewards you with an “Engraved Key” and “The Watcher’s Guide,” a magic spear that helps you hit your targets.
  • But beware! Opening the Sarcophagus also triggers the trap. Grease vents start spewing forth, and fiery darts rain down on the grease in turn-based mode. The grease vents will continuously expel more grease, so this trap won’t let up.

To disarm this trap like a pro, you have several options:

  1. Press the convenient button on the pillar at any point after the trap is triggered.
  2. Use a disarm toolkit on the vents individually.
  3. Block the vents with crates or other objects to prevent the grease from oozing out.
  4. Utilize a Create/Destroy Water spell to extinguish the fire and wash away the grease in certain areas.

Easy-peasy, right? The button is the no-brainer choice, but don’t fret if you missed the Perception check. There are other ways to deal with this oily situation. Now that the trap is disarmed, let’s move on to the next room. Just don’t slip and fall!

The Bedchamber and Ornate Door

In this connecting room, treasure awaits! Keep an eye out for:

  • A gilded chest hiding a beautiful Ruby Ring on the east wall.
  • “On Death & Resurrection,” a fascinating book to the right of the chest.
  • Two opulent chests filled with 20 Gold and three spell scrolls.

Now, behold the doors that lie before you: a set heading north and a smaller door to the west. Let’s tackle the west door first, but feel free to check out the section on the tomb for more info on where the north door leads.

As you step through the west door, you’ll find yourself in the “Bedchamber.” Ah, but there’s an Ornate Door blocking your path, and mysterious voices taunt you from the other side. Tricky, right? Brace yourself because that door can only be opened from the other side, accessible through the alternate paths at the Chapel Entrance we mentioned earlier. To open it, you’ll need to press a secret button hidden behind a skull, cleverly concealed behind a statue of a wizard. No easy way around it!

For now, your only option is the Heavy Oak Door to the north in the treasure room. Don’t worry, we’ll cover what’s through there shortly.

The Entombed Warriors of Jergal and Withers’ Tomb

But first, a quick detour. As you step through the north Heavy Oak Door, seize the opportunity to loot the corpses of the Entombed Warriors and Scribes. They won’t be needing their possessions anymore, and who knows what valuable items you might find? Greedy adventurers like us can’t resist, can we?

To the west of the main room, take a moment to appreciate your surroundings. A successful perception check will reveal a button. Press it! Boom! A secret door opens, and the Entombed dead rise to challenge you. Luckily, you’ve already taken everything they had, so they’re much easier to deal with now. Hack, slash, and conquer!

Once the dust settles, head through the newly opened secret tomb door. Treasure awaits you there! Dive into the Heavy Chest and claim your prize – 93 Gold and The Amulet of Lost Voices. Prepare to be amazed by this incredible item that lets you speak with the dead. Just imagine the secret knowledge that lies within those souls!

But wait, there’s more! Opening the new sarcophagus triggers a cutscene, and a mysterious undead named Withers emerges. Fear not, for he won’t attack. Instead, he poses you with enigmatic questions. Once the dialogue ends, you can find Withers at your campsite. He’s a helpful NPC who can bring dead characters back to life – for a price. Just make sure you’ve got 200 Gold per life restored.

Congratulations, brave adventurers! You’ve conquered the Dank Crypt! You can either exit the same way you came or explore further by heading east from the Jergal statue and discovering a little underwater river. There, you’ll find the hatch we mentioned earlier, serving as a nifty third option for entering or exiting this eerie place.

And there you have it, the Dank Crypt fully explored and conquered! Now go forth, defeat evil, and may the loot be ever in your favor!
