Baldur’s Gate 3: A Guide to Gandrel the Gur
Ah, Baldur’s Gate 3, a game full of tough choices and unforgettable moments. One such pivotal moment comes when you encounter Gandrel the Gur in the mystical Sunlit Wetlands or the somewhat less appealing Putrid Bog. Get ready, because this encounter is about to take you on a wild ride!
Where To Find Gandrel The Gur
Gandrel the Gur can be found in the Sunlit Wetlands (or the Putrid Bog, if you have the patience to pass the Investigation or Nature check). Just look for him standing southwest of the Riverside Teahouse waypoint and southeast of Auntie Ethel’s cottage.
What To Do With Gandrel The Gur
Now, let’s get to the juicy part. Gandrel is hunting down one of your companions, the mysterious Astarion. If you didn’t know already, brace yourself: Astarion is a vampire spawn! And Gandrel’s mission is to capture him and bring him back to Baldur’s Gate.
Option 1: Give Astarion Up To Gandrel
If you’re feeling like playing the hero, you can choose to give up Astarion to Gandrel. It’s as simple as outing his identity and affirming that you’re willing to hand him over. Gandrel will knock Astarion out and take him away. Poof! Goodbye, Astarion. But be careful, this decision is a one-way ticket to removing him permanently from your party.
Option 2: Help Astarion Kill Gandrel
On the other hand, if you believe in loyalty and friendship, you can side with Astarion and refuse to give him up. This will result in a brawl with Gandrel. Trust us, this guy is no pushover. He’s got high Dexterity, strength, constitution, and wisdom scores. Plus, he’s resistant to spells and cantrips that force their targets to make saving throws. It won’t be an easy fight, but it will bring you closer to Astarion and reveal his haunting past.

Option 3: Leave Peacefully
Feeling like a peacemaker? You can interrupt the impending fight and peacefully leave the conversation. Astarion might not be too happy about it, but at least no blood will be shed. Gandrel will live to fight another day. In fact, he’ll reappear in Baldur’s Gate later in Act 3 along with his Gur tribe, starting the thrilling “Investigate Cazador’s Palace” questline that ties into Astarion’s personal journey.
The choice is yours, my fellow adventurers. Will you sacrifice Astarion for the greater good, stand by his side, or find a peaceful resolution? Whatever you decide, just remember that Baldur’s Gate 3 is a game where your choices matter. So choose wisely and keep on gaming!
