Baldur’s Gate 3: A Paladin’s Oath – Embrace the Power of the Ancients, Devotion, or Darkness!

Baldur’s Gate 3

In the mystical world of Baldur’s Gate 3, each class brings its own unique abilities and utilities to the team. From the Rogue’s knack for burst damage and trap disarming, to the Fighter’s mastery of every weapon and armor type, or the Druid’s ability to shapeshift and hold conversations with animals. It’s a chaotic playground of epic proportions!

But today, we’ll be delving into the divine power of Paladins! These noble warriors are empowered by their unyielding devotion to a sacred oath. Whether it’s protecting the innocent as a Knight in Shining Armor, upholding the sanctity of Life and Nature, or delivering swift justice and retribution, Paladins are defined by their unwavering commitment. And let’s not forget the consequences of breaking their oath, which ultimately leads to a transformation into the fearsome “Oathbreaker” subclass. Yikes!

Oath of the Ancients: Embrace the Power of Life and Nature!

As defenders of Life and champions of Nature, Oath of the Ancients Paladins share a close affinity with Druids. They possess a remarkable ability called Healing Radiance, which allows them to perform an AOE Heal centered on themselves. This healing aura pulses again at the start of their next turn, making them invaluable when fighting alongside fellow adventurers.

At level 3, these Paladins gain Nature’s Wrath and Turn the Faithless. Nature’s Wrath allows them to restrain an enemy by expending a Channel Oath charge during their attack, while Turn the Faithless strikes fear into the hearts of fey and fiends, causing them to flee in terror. Additionally, they gain the spells “Speak with Animals” and “Ensnaring Strike (Ranged)” as additional prepared spells, enabling them to stun troublesome foes and gather information from the unlikeliest of sources.

As they reach level 5, the Oath of the Ancients grants them even more power with the addition of “Misty Step” and “Moonbeam” as prepared spells. These allow the Paladins to teleport as a bonus action and conjure a devastating beam of damage from above, which can be repositioned in subsequent turns. Talk about versatility!

However, be warned! Oath of the Ancients Paladins will lose their divine powers if they fail to defend life’s sanctity or disturb the delicate balance of nature. So, always remember to stay on the bright side of nature!

Oath of Devotion: Be the Shining Knight You Were Born to Be!

Baldur’s Gate 3

Oath of Devotion Paladins truly embody the classical, shining image of Knights in Armor. Their ultimate goal is to protect the weak and uphold the greater good. These noble warriors can channel their oath through Divine Rebuke, placing a divine ward on an ally that inflicts radiant damage upon any foe foolish enough to attack them with a melee strike.

Upon reaching level 3, Oath of Devotion Paladins unlock additional spells and abilities aligned with their sacred oath. Two unique ways to channel their oath emerge: Sacred Weapon and Turn the Unholy. Sacred Weapon allows Paladins to infuse their weapon with divine energy, adding their Charisma Bonus to attack rolls. Whereas Turn the Unholy lets them repel Undead and Fiends, forcing them to flee in fear. Furthermore, they gain the spells “Protection from Evil and Good” and “Sanctuary” as prepared spells, providing extra protection in dire situations.

When they hit level 5, Oath of Devotion Paladins unleash even greater might, obtaining the spells “Lesser Restoration” and Silence. These spells grant them the ability to cure diseases and create a silence-inducing sphere that renders its occupants immune to thunder damage. A much-needed silence can be golden in chaotic battles!

But remember, embracing cruelty or breaking their word will turn a Paladin who once swore the Oath of Devotion into an Oathbreaker. So, stay true to your virtues and be the shining beacon of hope the world needs!

Darkness Revealed: Unleash the Power of the Oathbreaker!

Baldur’s Gate 3

In the dark corners of Baldur’s Gate 3, exist Paladins who have shattered their sacred oath, transforming into fearsome Oathbreakers. These warriors, no longer supported by their original oath, are instead fueled by darkness. It’s not a path for the faint-hearted!

Starting as another Paladin and breaking their oath during gameplay, these former champions must meet the Oathbreaker Knight at their camp, becoming a full-fledged Oathbreaker. However, fear not! The Knight offers a chance to restore their lost oath, for a price of 2,000 gold. A small fee to regain your righteous powers!

At the heart of an Oathbreaker’s arsenal lies the Channel Oath ability: Spiteful Suffering. With this dark power, they can deal necrotic damage to a target within 3 meters and give all attacks against that target an advantage. Talk about embracing the shadows!

Upon reaching level 3, Oathbreakers gain two additional Channel Oath Abilities: Control Undead and Dreadful Aspect. Control Undead allows them to gain temporary control over an undead creature, turning their once-enemies into temporary allies. Meanwhile, Dreadful Aspect emits a pulse of fear, causing nearby enemies to cower in horror. They also gain the spells “Hellish Rebuke” and “Inflict Wounds” as additional prepared spells, allowing them to counterattack with fiery vengeance and deal necrotic damage from a distance. A fitting way to explore the darker side of the divine!

When Oathbreakers hit level 5, they unlock the spells “Crown of Madness” and “Darkness.” These spells add a twisted layer to their arsenal, allowing them to manipulate enemies into attacking their own allies and create fields shrouded in impenetrable darkness. Keep your friends close and your enemies even closer!

Oath of Vengeance: Justice Awaits, But at What Cost?

Baldur’s Gate 3

In the thrilling world of Baldur’s Gate 3, the Oath of Vengeance beckons to those ready to wield justice unchecked. While this oath is not available in the Playtest version, we can glean information from the tabletop game to catch a glimpse of its potential power. Oath of Vengeance Paladins dedicate themselves to upholding justice at any cost, even if it means sacrificing their own virtue. But beware, for failing to enact justice during pivotal moments in the game’s story will transform these Paladins into dreaded Oathbreakers.

Oath of Vengeance Paladins possess the ability to channel divinity through two distinct powers: Abjure Enemy and Vow of Enmity. Abjure Enemy instills such terror in their foe that their movement speed drops to zero, provided they fail a Wisdom Saving Throw. In contrast, Vow of Enmity enables Paladins to mark a target, granting them an advantage on attack rolls against that foe for ten rounds. Justice will be served!

Additionally, Oath of Vengeance Paladins gain a unique ability that allows them to move half their movement speed after making an attack of opportunity, evading any counterattacks from their adversaries. This mobility ensures they excel at swift retaliations and evasive maneuvers.

And there you have it! The captivating world of Baldur’s Gate 3 is set to unleash its immersive RPG experience on August 3rd, 2023, for PC and Mac, and September 6th, 2023, for PS5. Mark your calendars, gather your friends, and embark on an unforgettable adventure!
