Baldur's Gate 3: Top Builds for Lae'zel
Quick Links
As you embark on your adventure in Baldur’s Gate 3, you’ll encounter a variety of companions, and the first one you meet is Lae’zel, a Githyanki Fighter who doesn’t have time for small talk. She’s focused on the mission at hand and isn’t the easiest person to please. But trust me, rescuing her is worth it because she’s an incredible warrior.
Strength | Dexterity | Constitution | Intelligence | Wisdom | Charisma |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
17 | 13 | 14 | 11 | 12 | 8 |
Lae’zel hits hard with her impressive Strength of 17. If you can boost it further, she becomes even more devastating. Her Dexterity and Wisdom may not be outstanding, but her Constitution of 14 is solid. Lae’zel’s role is clear – she’s here to hit things and hit them hard, and she excels at it.
Lae’zel can choose between three subclasses at level three: Battle Master, Champion, or Eldritch Knight. The Eldritch Knight requires Intelligence, which isn’t Lae’zel’s strong suit, so it’s best to go with either Battle Master or Champion.
Building Lae’zel As A Battle Master
With Lae’zel’s decent bulk and high Strength, she’s designed to lead the charge into battle with a melee weapon. She’s the meat shield of your party, diving headfirst into the fray.
Level 2
You automatically gain access to Action Surge, a once-per-rest ability that allows Lae’zel to act twice in one turn. It’s incredibly useful in clutch moments.

Level 3
Choose the Battle Master subclass. This gives you three maneuvers to choose from, which each cost a single Superiority Die to use. You’ll have four Superiority Dice to start with. Here are our recommendations: – Menacing Attack: Great for frightening enemies at any stage of the battle. – Riposte: Perfect for counterattacking weakened foes or dealing damage to tougher enemies. Lae’zel’s frontline position makes this maneuver highly effective. – Distracting Strike: Use this to make Lae’zel a support character for your party members. If successful, it grants advantage to your allies attacking Lae’zel’s target.
At this level, Lae’zel also gains the Githyanki Psionics: Jump spell.
Level 4
Increase Lae’zel’s Strength and Dexterity each by one point.
Level 5
Lae’zel automatically gains an Extra Attack. She also receives the Githyanki Psionics: Misty Step spell.
Level 6
Take the Great Weapon Master feat, which allows Lae’zel to make more attacks when she crits or kills with a melee attack. It also provides a toggleable passive ability that sacrifices accuracy for additional damage.
Level 7
As part of the Battle Master subclass, you gain two more maneuvers at this level. Here are our recommendations: – Trip Attack: Particularly useful against larger enemies as you progress through the game. – Rally: A versatile support ability that aids Lae’zel’s injured or fallen allies behind the frontline.
Level 8
Increase Lae’zel’s Strength by two points, reaching the maximum of 20.
Level 9
Lae’zel automatically gains Indomitable, allowing her to reroll a failed Saving Throw.
Level 10
Your Combat Superiority die increases to a d10, improving the damage dealt by your maneuvers. You also get to choose two more options: – Precision Attack: Helps Lae’zel hit high-AC enemies towards the end of the game. – Goading Attack: Encourages enemies to target Lae’zel instead of your squishier party members, especially as opponents become stronger.
Level 11
Lae’zel gains yet another Extra Attack at this level.
Level 12
Take the Durable feat, which improves Lae’zel’s ability to tank over extended periods, increasing your party’s overall efficiency.
This build truly starts shining at Level 3 when you unlock the useful maneuvers. Riposte and Distracting Attack are invaluable in tight situations. At Level 5, the build comes into its own with the Fighter class’s sheer strength, allowing multiple attacks per turn. With Action Surge, Lae’zel possesses one of the highest single-turn damage outputs in the game. Mastering this ability is key to maximizing her effectiveness.
Feel free to customize the build to suit your preferred tactics and playstyle. Here are some recommendations: – Swapping the feat choices at Level 6 and Level 8 is perfectly reasonable if you want to reach 20 Strength sooner. – If your party consists of fragile members, consider moving Rally to the first batch of choices. You can swap it for Menacing Attack. – If you have multiple martial characters, consider replacing one maneuver with Commander’s Strike. – Multiclassing is an attractive option for many, but Fighter’s power lies in its gradual and significant increases in power. Going with Fighter for most levels is recommended, though dabbling in Barbarian for Rage or Rogue for Sneak Attack can be beneficial with careful consideration.
The Best Equipment For Lae’zel
The basic rule for outfitting Lae’zel is to equip her with any powerful, magic weapons, and armor you come across. As a Fighter, she can utilize any weapon’s skills and take advantage of the magical effects they provide.
- When selecting weapons for Lae’zel, prioritize those with the Two-Handed or Versatile tags. If wielding a versatile weapon without a shield, she’ll use it with both hands.
- Good weapon options include the Sword of Justice, Githyanki Greatsword, Larethian’s Wrath, Halberd of Vigilance, Soulbreaker Greatsword, Sorrow, and Blooded Greataxe.
- Although Lae’zel is proficient with Longbows, we haven’t optimized her for archery. However, she can still make use of powerful magic bows, so don’t neglect them.
- The armor Lae’zel starts with is excellent and won’t require an upgrade throughout Act 1. Focus on upgrading her armor when you find pieces with exceptional magic effects, such as the Adamantine Splint Armor.
Happy adventuring! And remember, the best way to defeat your enemies is with a combination of skill, strategy, and a touch of brute force. Trust in Lae’zel’s might, and she’ll lead you to victory!
