Destiny 2 is a game that constantly evolves, and seasons bring not only new lore and gameplay additions, but also the opportunity to experiment with different builds. Lightfall introduced the Strand subclass and new powers, but it lacked a strong narrative. However, The Final Shape is expected to follow suit. In the meantime, Season 22 is about to revive a forgotten Hunter Exotic, shaking up the gameplay meta.
Exotic weapons have often seen changes, but armor has sometimes been left behind. With a whopping 40 Exotic armor pieces for each class, it’s no surprise that some have become obsolete or simply never lived up to their potential. Thankfully, Bungie has recognized this and is bringing back an Exotic that was previously nerfed too hard, giving it a chance to shine once again.
Let’s talk about the Renewal Grasps, an Exotic gauntlet for Hunters. When they were first released, these gauntlets quickly became a favorite among players due to their incredible area denial, team support, and survivability. These were qualities that the Hunter class often lacked, as it was usually the domain of Warlocks and certain Titan Exotics. Unfortunately, due to issues in PvP, Bungie decided to nerf the Renewal Grasps, and they were slowly forgotten by players.
The initial nerfs reduced the gauntlets’ effectiveness in PvP, and later Bungie increased the cooldown for Stasis Duskfield Grenades in both PvP and PvE. This essentially rendered the Renewal Grasps unusable, as players had to invest heavily in their build just to make them viable again, sacrificing the flexibility in other aspects of gameplay. Destiny 2’s Exotics are known for their polarizing nature, often enabling specific builds, and the Renewal Grasps were no exception. However, the cooldown increase was so significant that they became virtually unusable.

But fear not, Guardians! Bungie has recently announced in a Dev Insights post that they are undoing the previous nerf for the Renewal Grasps in Season 22. Hunters can once again protect themselves and their team with Duskfield Grenades, while also enjoying the new tools introduced in recent updates. This opens up exciting possibilities, including pairing the Renewal Grasps with The Navigator Exotic trace rifle from the Ghosts of the Deep Dungeon. This combination grants incredible damage resistance to the user and their allies when shooting a teammate, making Guardians nearly invincible in PvE. By utilizing damage mitigation mods and building up Tier 10 Resilience, players can truly become unstoppable.
So, whether you’re a seasoned Guardian or a new player, the return of the Renewal Grasps is fantastic news. It not only injects new life into the Hunter class but also expands the options available in the PvE meta. Destiny 2 continues to evolve and surprise us, and Season 22 is sure to be no exception.
Destiny 2 is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
