Warner Bros. Contemplates Delaying Aquaman and Dune 2 Releases Amidst Strikes

Aquaman

Ahoy, gamers! Grab your tridents and buckle up, because we’ve got some news about Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, as well as Dune 2. Brace yourselves, though, as the release dates for these highly anticipated films might be heading towards Davy Jones’ locker. Why, you ask? Well, it seems Warner Bros. is caught in the crossfire of ongoing strikes by the Screen Actors Guild and the Writers Guild.

The writers set sail on their strike voyage on May 2nd, after failing to reach a deal with the studios. Their strike caused quite the storm, forcing productions to come to a screeching halt. But, that’s not the end of the tale! The actors decided to jump aboard the strike bandwagon on July 14th, also unsuccessful in their negotiations. As a result, virtually all productions have been suspended, leaving actors high and dry without the chance to promote their films. Tough luck, mateys!

Variety recently reported that Warner Bros. is seriously considering shifting the release dates of both Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, as well as Dune 2, all the way to 2024. Now, I know what you’re thinking – that’s quite the storm! However, it’s important to note that Dune 2 is a co-production between Warner Bros. and Legendary Entertainment, so they’ll need to reach a mutual agreement on a new release date. Ah, the joys of collaboration!

Let’s dive deeper into Aquaman 2. This film has encountered more complications than a ship caught in a whirlpool, with multiple reshoots and numerous test screenings. It serves as the grand finale for the DC Extended Universe (DCEU) before James Gunn’s reboot into the DCU. The original Aquaman film was a tidal wave of success at the box office, swashing away over $1.14 billion. Unfortunately, recent DCEU films like Shazam 2, Black Adam, and The Flash haven’t been as fortunate. Add the strikes to the mix, and it’s no wonder the studio is feeling the tingling of trepidation for the sequel’s success.

Dune 2, on the other hand, anchors its release date to November 3rd and boasts a star-studded cast with the likes of Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Austin Butler, Florence Pugh, Josh Brolin, and more. Equally exciting is Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, set to splash into theaters in December, featuring the beloved Jason Momoa. Unfortunately, the actors’ strike is keeping these stars away from promoting these films. No interviews, no talk shows, no conventions – not even San Diego Comic-Con! These appearances are often the lifeblood of drumming up excitement for a movie, making this situation a true tsunami of trouble.

With studios even contemplating delays until 2024, it’s clear they don’t expect these strikes to settle anytime soon. Ye be warned, me hearties!

Arrr! Mark your calendars, because Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom sets sail on December 20, while Dune 2 embarks on its journey on November 3, 2023. Keep a keen eye on the horizon for any updates, and until then, may the currents of gaming flow in your favor!
