Great news for all the Sony PlayStation Plus subscribers out there! Get ready to embark on an incredible retro RPG adventure with Sea of Stars. This Chrono Trigger inspired game, developed by Sabotage Studio, will be joining the PlayStation Plus Game Catalogue upon its release on August 29th!

Sony rarely adds games on their release day to their subscription service. It’s like finding a treasure chest washed up on the shore. Only a few other titles, such as Stray and Tchia, have been given this special treatment. Interestingly, Sony still holds back from offering new first-party games on PlayStation Plus day one. So, this is indeed a unique event!

The team at Sabotage Studio is over the moon about Sea of Stars being included in the PS Plus Game Catalogue. In a statement on the PlayStation Blog, Philippe Dionne, the level designer, expressed their excitement, saying, “After working on this game that is so dear to us for five years, we’re now only a few weeks away from release, and we’re happy to share this moment with the PlayStation community.”

But wait, there’s more! The developer has also released a demo of Sea of Stars on both PlayStation 5 and PS4. Dive into this demo to get a taste of what the final game has to offer. You’ll explore areas that will be part of the full experience, without spoiling any of the main story. This little slice of the game will allow you to familiarize yourself with the gameplay systems and mechanics, particularly the thrilling dungeon crawling and combat.

And let’s not forget, our very own Ed has already experienced this demo on the Nintendo Switch and had a blast! He was absolutely captivated by the game’s brilliant design and found the combat to be immensely satisfying. With its isometric perspective, Sea of Stars offers a unique sense of exploration, where characters can climb, leap, and navigate the environment in surprising ways.

We find ourselves in the middle of a golden age of JRPGs. From remasters like Live A Live and Tactics Ogre to recent hits like Nintendo’s Fire Emblem and the retro-styled Chained Echoes, the genre is thriving. While Final Fantasy 16 may be on everyone’s mind this year, Sea of Stars promises to be an unmissable gem.

So, mark your calendars for August 29th and prepare to set sail on a celestial adventure with Sea of Stars on PlayStation Plus!
