What is Mentoring?

In The Sims 4, mentoring is the game mechanic that allows Sims to support one another in acquiring and enhancing skills. It’s exactly what you would expect – a knowledgeable Sim helping another Sim in their skill learning journey. The best part is, you don’t need any DLC to enjoy this feature!

How to Get the Mentor Trait

To become a mentor, your Sim needs to acquire the mentor trait. You can buy this trait from the aspirations reward store for 1,000 reward points. Don’t worry, the mentor trait won’t replace any of your Sim’s existing traits. It simply adds another feather to their cap!

Once your Sim has the mentor trait, they can start mentoring other Sims. Simply click on the Sim who wants to learn a skill, find the mentor option in the pie menu, and voila! Your mentor Sim will guide and support the novice Sim in their skill learning journey. Just remember, your mentor Sim should have already mastered the desired skill before they can mentor others.

More Ways to Enhance Learning Skills

Sims' moods and rewards

When a mentor is not available, there are still ways to boost skill learning. Taking care of your Sim’s motives before they start studying or practicing is crucial. Additionally, ideal moods and moodlets can significantly enhance learning speed. Aim for the following moods:

  • Happy or Very Happy
  • Inspired or Very Inspired
  • Focused or Very Focused
  • Confident or Very Confident

You can also explore other rewards available in the reward store. Here are a few noteworthy options:

  • Mood potions: Low-cost items (200 points each) that provide a specific mood boost for a few hours.
  • Morning Sim: Makes your Sim more proficient in building skills during the morning.
  • Night Owl: Boosts skill-building abilities during the night.
  • Speed Reader: Helps Sims finish books faster.
  • Savant: The most expensive trait that significantly accelerates skill-building.

With these tips and tricks, you’ll be on your way to mastering skills, creating the perfect mentor Sim, and unlocking endless possibilities in The Sims 4!
